Press Reviews

Wroclaw Gazeta:

[…]Her 2013 European debut of Tosca with Opera Wrolawska was victorious; she conveyed a deep emotion and rich and unique vocal tones[…]

Opera Canada:

[…]Vardy nailed the role of Sophie with pinpoint accuracy, from the brazenly audacious delivery of her witty bon mots to the aging but still-sexy-and-knows-it-all hotel proprietress[…]

Schmopera:

[…]Vardy’s Sophie is an unusual character, at times contemptible, slovenly, threatening or soothing. She starts off with one liners that sets the character up as the unkempt, apathetic hotelkeeper, and her menace, and eventually her true nature comes out. While it takes some time for vardy to sing more than the occasional interjections or acerbic remarks, when she finally does, it is beautiful, and brings out so much more about Sophie’s character as she devolves into becoming far more than she appears[…]

Opera Canada:

[…]Sarah Vardy, as Pauline’s overbearing sister Eva, sang her role so convincingly that everyone disliked her intensely.[…]

Saskatoon Star Pheonix:

[…]Miss Vardy is acclaimed for her emotional yet unaffected vocal quality, ringing out with true clear voice…[…]

Opera Canada:

[…]Sung with catty and self righteous intensity-just what the part needed.[…]

Saskatoon Star Pheonix:

[…]She stands out wherever she sings with a combination of vocal passion and rich characterization.[…]

Vancouver Classical Music:

[…]Sarah Vardy’s keen sense of comedic timing and quirky stage presence brought strong tangibility to her portrayal of the bizarre hotelier Sophie. In her hands the character came across as simultaneously inscrutable, disdainful, willful, petulant, and menacing[…]
